Frequently Asked Questions
- Is able to provide the energy usage data from their EV chargers
- Provides the electricity to the EV chargers and pays the electricity bill to BC Hydro or Fortis BC
- For residential, the building where charging takes place must have 5 or more dwelling units
The BC Government uses a complex formula to calculate credits from energy used in EV chargers. According to that formula, one carbon credit is equivalent to roughly 1,100 kWh of energy used to charge an EV. It is important to note that Foreseeson manages this process on behalf of your organization.
YES, the total kWh used in a charger is the basis of the number of credits you will receive. This data must be reported to the BC Government by no later than March 31st of the year following the year in which the data is reported.
It is a legal requirement that all organizations that have EV chargers must file reports before the following March 31st each year. For example, for the 2023 reporting period of January 1 to December 31, a report must be filed to the BC Government by no later than March 31, 2024 in order to claim a credit for 2023.
Foreseeson will manage this process for each organization.
If your organization has installed networked chargers, contact your network operator and request they provide the data for each charger for the entire reporting year in the format required by the BC Government.
If your organization has a group of chargers connected to a single dedicated meter, then copies of the Hydro bill must be provided to Foreseeson for the months January and December of the same reporting year. We will provide these to the BC Government to enable your organization to claim a credit.
Foreseeson will provide and work with each customer to properly complete the BC Government form that must be filled out for each charger.
Yes. To receive BC credits, an organization must provide copies of its utility bills that are from a meter dedicated to measuring the electrical supply to all its EV chargers. Foreseeson can also supply technology that can be retrofitted which captures detailed energy use from each non-networked charger. This technology will generate energy reports from an organization’s non-networked chargers that meets the reporting requirements of the BC Government and the Federal Government allowing credits to be claimed under both credit programs. YES, if an organization is planning to file on its own or is using the services of an “agent” who is not an authorized “Part 3 Fuel Supplier”. Foreseeson Technology is an authorized Part 3 Fuel supplier and aggregator, therefore files carbon credit reports on behalf of each customer. This is the Foreseeson advantage, we assume responsibility for the entire process.

YES, if an organization is planning to file on its own or use the services of an “agent” who is not an authorized “Part 3 Fuel Supplier”. The organization will need a BCeID in order to get access to the BC Government’s Transportation Fuel Reporting System (TFRS). The organization will also need to provide access to the agent as the agent can only submit credit reports by logging into the organization’s TFRS account.
As an authorized Part 3 Fuel Supplier and aggregator, Foreseeson Technology will submit each customer’s report under its own TFRS account. This is the Foreseeson advantage, we assume responsibility for the entire process.
Carbon credits reports from our customers are pooled then submitted by Foreseeson to the BC Government by no later than March 31st of each year. The BC Government process to issue a credit can take some time. Once we have the credits in our account, we sell them, and the pro-rata share of the revenue is distributed to each customer as soon as the credits are paid for by the buyer.
